Giedre Beinoriute, Lithuania, 2008
45 min, Dutch subtitled

One-off screening

Guests! Giedre Beinoriute, director of The Balcony, and Meikeminne Clinckspoor, director of The Wishing Tree.

The film is set in a small provincial town in the Soviet Union during the 1980’s. Following the divorce of his parents, Rolana settles in with his father. Emilia, the girl living in the flat next door, becomes his friend. Since both children are shy and fearful, they communicate through the wall or from their balconies, or through the electric plug. It turns out that Emilia's parents are also on the verge of divorce. The children discover they have much in common, but after a near-tragic incident Emilia is banned from further playing on the balcony. This encourages the children to go on a “real” date.

This film is preceded by the short film The Wishing Tree van Meikeminne Clinckspoor.
