In the Ciné-Café UGC, you can visit the free exhibition 'La Pêche à la Baleine' from Benjamin Demeyere. The artist inspired his paintings and short film by the poem of the French writer Jacques Prévert.
In the poem Prosper doesn't want to go fishing with his dad. 'Why should I? The fish didn't do something wrong to me." Dad is disappointed and leaves the house. He returns with a whale on his back. Prosper doesn't want to kill the innocent whale. The animal in need takes a knife and kills the father. Against his will, the whale turns into a 'Killing Whale'... The animal apologises to Prosper and the mother and wonders why he killed the poor man...
When you read this story, you can imagine absurd and special scenes. But Benjamin sees the unwritten story because this makes space for imagination. For example, he draws a huge animal sitting on a bike and dad who drives him home. Benjamin has a surreal, funny and 'comic-dramatic'style. He pictures the whale as an innocent, friendly and happy friend of children, as an animal you never can forget...
